VISIONARY INSTITUTE
Foraging for ART
2 day immersive workshops with Fine Art students, Newcastle University 2026
These workshops centre on tactile, sensual, and seasonal immersion, inviting participants to attune to weather, landscape, and multispecies presence as active collaborators in art-making. Through guided foraging walks, participants learn basic principles and ethical rules of foraging while experimenting with seasonal wild-crafting and improvised re-enactments of ancestral practices. Foraging is approached expansively: not only as a way of gathering edible or material resources, but also as a method for kin making, collecting observations, sounds, gestures, stories, and less tangible forms of knowledge that emerge from close attention to place and time.
The workshops alternate between sustained outdoor engagement and indoor sessions of making, movement, reflection, and dialogue. Sessions incorporate gentle somatic practices, breathwork, vocalisation, guided relaxation, shared meals, and conversation, supporting a sense of community, care, and multispecies entanglement. The overall focus is on collective experience rather than mastery, fostering quantum sensing, imaginative response, improvisation and communal celebration of the season’s shifting energies.
