Eating the Land: Meals, Feasts and Gastrosophy

Food Is Love! 

This page brings together examples of creative and pedagogical projects that invoke food and cooking as artistic mediums. These projects explore food cultures and the interconnected practices of growing, thinking, making, sharing, celebrating, reciprocating and eating with the land as ways of critically engaging with the complexities of everyday life. At their heart, they understand food as a medium of care, hospitality, reciprocity and common world-making.

Over the years, the many flavours and faces of food—and this universal, everyday necessity—have become central to my ART and Land Practice. Food is far more than sustenance; it is an artistic medium through which relationships with place, one another and the more-than-human world can be cultivated. Through shared meals, growing, foraging, cooking, preserving and feasting, I explore how everyday acts of nourishment can inspire and mobilise transformations towards futures—and presents—that nurture, heal and sustain the complex web of life.

Drawing on my rural Subcarpathian upbringing in Poland, with its rich traditions of hospitality, seasonal abundance and communal feasting, I bring these experiences into dialogue with the contemporary ethos of Slow Food and ecological thinking. My work follows food from earth to table, from seed to nectar, from cultivation to conviviality, celebrating the sensuous, ecological and metabolic entanglements that bind us to the land. Growing, tasting, cooking, eating, feasting and philosophising become creative acts that nourish body, mind and heart while cultivating community, reciprocity and resilience.
